Michael Douglas offered a rare glimpse into Jack Nicholson's life today. During an event in the United Kingdom, where he presented his memoir 'One Helluva Ride', the actor and producer said his friend no longer works and is doing well. "He doesn't work anymore. He's fine. He's disappeared. I know that," he said of the star of 'The Shining'.
According to The Standard, a British newspaper, Douglas also said he still sees Nicholson. "He's over there, at his house, walking around in his slippers," he explained. With those words he described a simple routine, very different from the actor who for years attended premieres, industry events and Los Angeles Lakers games.
Douglas said he understands his friend's decision to stay away from professional work. "He deserves it. I understand," he said.
Nicholson, 89, built a career spanning more than five decades with films such as 'Chinatown', 'Batman' and 'As Good as It Gets'. He won three Academy Awards and received twelve nominations. His last film was 'How Do You Know', released in 2010. Although he never formally announced a retirement, in 2013 he said he felt less interest in staying publicly exposed.
In 2025 he briefly reappeared in the 50th anniversary special of 'Saturday Night Live'. However, no new film project has materialized.
