Authorities Dismantle Illegal Fuel Storage Site in San Francisco de Macorís

Authorities seized more than 6,000 gallons of diesel at an illegal fuel sales operation in Duarte province. Here is what was found.

Key points

  • ,377 gallons of diesel (gasoil) were seized, with an estimated value of RD$1.4 million.
  • The site was located at Avenida Libertad No. 5 and had a tank capable of holding up to 10,000 gallons.
  • The operation was carried out under a court order, accompanied by representatives of the Duarte Prosecutor's Office (Fiscalía de Duarte).
  • The case falls under Law No. 112-00 on Hydrocarbons.

The Specialized Body for Fuel Control and Commodities Trade (CECCOM) dismantled a clandestine site in San Francisco de Macorís that was storing and selling fuel without permits. Authorities seized 6,377 gallons of diesel at the location.

During the operation, officials also confiscated a large-capacity storage tank and equipment used to distribute the fuel without authorization.

The establishment is located at Avenida Libertad No. 5. It had a tank with a capacity of up to 10,000 gallons, and a sign bearing the name "Mochotran" was posted on site.

According to authorities' calculations, the seized fuel has an approximate value of RD$1.4 million, based on the official price of RD$224.80 per gallon set by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs.

The intervention was carried out in compliance with a court order and with the accompaniment of representatives of the Duarte Prosecutor's Office. CECCOM indicated that the action is based on Law No. 112-00 on Hydrocarbons, which provides for administrative and criminal penalties for illicit trade, unauthorized transport, and fuel adulteration.

With this operation, authorities aim to strengthen controls over the distribution and sale of fuel and ensure these operations are conducted in accordance with the law.

Why it matters

Authorities are seeking to curb the illegal sale of fuel, a practice that undermines control over fuel distribution in the country. For people buying gasoline or diesel in the Dominican Republic, the crackdown reinforces oversight of where fuel is sold.
