Santo Domingo will host a regional meeting from November 10 to 12, 2026, on the challenges that artificial intelligence and digital transformation pose to copyright. Delegations from 17 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean will take part in the event, convened by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Dominican National Copyright Office (ONDA).

The meeting will take place at the Hotel Catalonia in the National District and will center on an advanced course on managing the transformation of copyright in Latin America. Participants will include international experts, directors and officials of national copyright offices, legal experts, representatives of international organizations, and professionals from the creative industries.

ONDA Director General José Rubén Gonell Cosme highlighted that WIPO chose the country as the host. He said the decision recognizes the Dominican Republic's progress in protecting intellectual property and respecting authors' rights, and that the event represents an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation, promote public policies in response to technological change, and consolidate the Dominican presence in regional discussion spaces.

The academic agenda will devote the first day to how artificial intelligence is changing content creation and what regulatory challenges it raises. The second day will focus on online business models and creator compensation, with attention to the music and audiovisual industries, including streaming platforms. The third day will address the role of collective management organizations and the oversight of national authorities.

The program includes round tables, exchanges of national experiences, and discussions on registering synthetic works, applying copyright in the digital environment, and transparency mechanisms for approving tariffs. There will also be sessions related to WIPO's Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights.
