The US Department of Justice announced charges against 63 people for election-related crimes. Among those charged are four noncitizens living in the country illegally. The cases include voting as a noncitizen in federal elections, falsely claiming US citizenship to register or vote, and submitting a fraudulent voter registration application in another state.

Attorney General Todd Blanche called the announcement the largest surge of voter-fraud arrests since President Trump returned to office. He said these individuals took advantage of the trust of the American people and broke the laws governing the country's elections. Blanche said the department will keep investigating and prosecuting voter fraud to restore confidence in the system.

According to the statement, in the last nine weeks the department has charged 195 noncitizens in 25 states with illegal voting and registration offenses. Since the start of the current administration, 239 people have been charged with offenses related to voter fraud.

Among the detailed cases is Benito Covarrubias Iniguez, 64, an illegal alien from Mexico charged in the Northern District of Georgia with falsely claiming US citizenship to vote in a federal election.

In the Southern District of Texas, five noncitizens were charged, including Ali Khan, from Trinidad and Tobago, accused of voting in the 2024 election. In North Carolina, nine noncitizens face charges, including Selvin Porfidio Gonzalez Escobar, a Guatemalan national living in the country illegally who, according to the charges, registered to vote in 2020 and voted in the 2020 and 2024 general elections.

Another case is that of Mohammad Hachibur Rahman, from Bangladesh, charged in Maryland with voting in the November 2024 election. The Justice Department statement does not say whether the accused have pleaded guilty.
