Escogido extended its winning streak to 10 games and tied a LIDOM record. One more win would give the franchise its longest streak ever.

Key points

  • Escogido beat Gigantes del Cibao 5-1 in the 2026-27 season.
  • Lauryn Lao pitched six scoreless innings and improved to 2-0.
  • Vidal Bruján went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and one RBI.
  • The streak ties the league record of 10 straight wins, shared by Licey, Águilas and Escogido itself.

The Escogido Lions beat the Gigantes del Cibao 5-1 on Wednesday at Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium in Santo Domingo, in the continuation of the 2026-27 Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) season. The game is part of the Banreservas Cup, dedicated to the memory of Héctor José Rizek Llabaly.

With the win, Escogido reached 10 straight victories, matching the longest winning streak in league history. The mark had previously been reached by the Tigres del Licey in 1953 and 1987-88, the Águilas Cibaeñas in 1992-93, 1996-97 and 2004-05, and by the Lions themselves in 1959-60, 1978-79 and 1998-99.

Left-hander Lauryn Lao was the standout on the mound. He worked six scoreless innings, allowed four hits and struck out three. Vidal Bruján led the offense with a triple and a single, scored two runs, drove in one and stole a base. Erik González added two hits in four at-bats, and Ramón Laureano hit a double and drove in two runs.

According to the Dominican Winter Baseball Record Book, one more win would make this Escogido the team with the most consecutive wins in franchise history. The league's all-time record remains with the Gigantes, who won 14 straight in the 2006-07 season. The Águilas had 12 in 2003-04, while the Toros del Este (2019-20) and Estrellas Orientales (1967-68 and 1968-69) reached streaks of 11.

Antonio Santos (0-2) took the loss, allowing four hits and two earned runs in 3.2 innings, with two strikeouts. With the result, Escogido improved to 2-1 in this season's series against the Gigantes and extended its all-time edge in the rivalry to 167-137.

Thursday is an off day. Play resumes Friday: Escogido visits the Gigantes at 7:00 p.m. At Julián Javier Stadium in San Francisco de Macorís. At the same time, the Águilas Cibaeñas host the Estrellas Orientales at Tetelo Vargas Stadium in San Pedro de Macorís, and the Toros del Este face the Tigres del Licey at Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium.
