The Festival CAYE will turn Ciudad Nueva, in the Distrito Nacional, into an arts and entertainment space on November 7 and 8. The third edition of the festival will bring together artists for musical, theater and ballet performances, along with live mural painting. Admission will be free.
According to muralist Omar García, known as Angurria, speaking in an interview on the program El Despertador, broadcast by Color Visión, Channel 9, the initiative aims to boost the sector's cultural development and turn it into the first "orange sector" in the Dominican Republic by making use of its historical and architectural heritage. The artist noted that Ciudad Nueva sits close to the Colonial City and has the potential to attract visitors.
One of the highlights will be the participation of the Ballet Nacional Dominicano, which will perform in the streets of Ciudad Nueva, outside the traditional Bellas Artes stages. The program will also include artistic interventions and spaces for children. For older adults there will be the Rincón Dorado, with bingo and music.
The festival will take place at Parque Cervantes, in front of the Obelisco Hembra. Although entry is free, attendees must register beforehand through the festival's website. García said registration will also be possible at the entrance, but recommended doing it in advance.
