Kim Kardashian Undergoes Surgery After Esophagitis Diagnosis

Kim Kardashian revealed she had throat surgery after an esophagitis diagnosis, the same kind of disease linked to her father's death.

Key points

  • Kim Kardashian was diagnosed with esophagitis and underwent throat surgery.
  • Her father, Robert Kardashian Sr., died of esophageal cancer in 2003 at age 59.
  • Kardashian disclosed it in a preview of the next episode of "The Kardashians."

Reality star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian underwent surgery to "remove... Irregularities" in her throat after being diagnosed with esophagitis. The news was reported by Page Six and surfaced through a preview of next week's episode of "The Kardashians."

In an interview, Kardashian said she had been feeling unwell for some time. "Lately I've been feeling a little off," she said. "Today my throat is killing me."

According to the report, her doctor told her she had "a little inflammation of the esophagus" and recommended starting with medication before undergoing a procedure that would allow them to examine her and decide whether anything more was needed.

Kardashian, creator of the Skims brand, admitted she had not spoken about the diagnosis before. The reason, she said, is that her father, Robert Kardashian Sr., died of esophageal cancer in 2003 at age 59.

According to the Mayo Clinic, esophagitis is the inflammation, irritation or swelling of the mucous lining of the esophagus, the muscular tube that carries food and liquids from the mouth to the stomach.
