Dozens of residents of the Santo Domingo Oeste municipality had free access to medical specialists during the "Más Salud y Bienestar" event, led by Public Health Minister Víctor Atallah. The event was held under the motto "Prevention is the key to a healthy life."
At the opening ceremony, Atallah stressed the importance of routine medical checkups to prevent disease and catch possible health conditions early. He explained that high blood pressure and diabetes can develop silently, so medical follow-up is essential. According to the minister, these events and the HEARTS strategy allow for early detection and treatment to prevent complications.
The minister said the initiative aims to bring health services closer to communities, pairing medical care with a human touch. "The person on the other side, the one receiving the consultation, is the main reason for this event," he said.
Health Area VII director Fausto Báez said "Más Salud" is the tool that brings the Ministry of Health closer to society and takes specialists to vulnerable populations. Santo Domingo Oeste Mayor Francisco Peña also praised the Ministry of Health and the regional health office for bringing the initiative to the municipality.
The event began Friday and continues Saturday, October 31, at Escuela Primaria Profesor Juan Emilio Bosch Gaviño, located at Calle Primera No. 7 in the La Rosa sector. Residents can access medical consultations, diagnostic services and health promotion activities.
