The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) has called for entries to the 2027 edition of “Economists of the Future,” an academic competition aimed at students in their final year of secondary school. Students work in teams of three, supported by a teacher or tutor, and represent their school.
The topic of this 14th edition is “Impact of geopolitical conflicts on the national economy.” Each team must present an essay on that subject. The papers with the highest grades will be presented before a jury appointed by the BCRD, made up of six professionals whose decision is final. The jury may declare one or more of the three places vacant.
According to the institution's statement, the deadline for submitting papers is February 26, 2027, and presentations before the jury will be held between April 12 and 16 of the same year. Papers must be original and unpublished, with a maximum length of ten pages.
Prizes include digital equipment for each student on the first-, second-, and third-place teams, as well as cash prizes for advisors.
The competition is part of the Aula Central corporate social responsibility program, which seeks to promote economic and financial education. Through this initiative, the BCRD aims to motivate young people to research economics and finance topics and to contribute to the formation of valuable human capital for the nation.
Why it matters
It is an opportunity for young Dominicans to strengthen their knowledge of economics and finance. Participants must meet requirements such as original, unpublished work of no more than ten pages, from schools recognized by the Ministry of Education.
