The National Commission for the Defense of Competition (ProCompetencia) will hold the IV Competition Week 2026 from Monday, November 2 to Friday, November 6, at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Santo Domingo. The event will bring together competition authorities from Latin America and the Caribbean, international organizations, academics, and representatives of the public and private sectors.
The week begins Monday, November 2, at 9:00 a.m., with a report from ProCompetencia's board president, María Elena Vásquez Taveras, on her management during the 2021-2026 period.
Vásquez Taveras said the country is discussing a new law that would give the competition authority tools it does not have today, at a time when the region's economic order is being reshaped. She said she wants that debate to be public and technical, informed by those who have already walked that path.
On Tuesday, November 3, a panel will address the draft Organic Antitrust and Economic Competition Law. The proposal includes a merger control regime, a leniency program to pursue cartels more effectively, broader investigative powers, and an institutional redesign to strengthen the authority's independence. That same day, the Competition Yearbook 2026 will be released, and winners of the essay contest Escribiendo X la Competencia 2026, which received 323 entries, will be awarded.
On Wednesday, November 4, the III International Forum on Gender and Competition will be held, with the participation of the Minister of Women, Gloria Reyes, and the UNDP resident representative, Ana María Díaz.
Why it matters
