Nov. 6 Is a Workday in the Dominican Republic; Holiday Moves to Monday

Friday, November 6 will be a workday in the Dominican Republic, but the Constitution Day holiday is moving to Monday. Here is the new calendar.

Key points

  • Friday, November 6 is a working day in the Dominican Republic.
  • The Constitution Day holiday is moved to Monday, November 9.
  • With the weekend, there will be three consecutive days off, from Saturday the 7th to Monday the 9th.

Friday, November 6 will be a working day in the Dominican Republic, even though the country marks Constitution Day that day. The holiday will be moved to Monday, November 9, according to the official holiday calendar published by the Ministry of Labor.

The change is based on Law 139-97, which allows some holidays to be moved to Monday depending on the day of the week they fall on.

People who do not have to work over the weekend will have three consecutive days off, from Saturday, November 7 to Monday, November 9.

November 6 commemorates the proclamation of the country's first Constitution in 1844, in San Cristóbal, months after independence was declared. That charter laid the legal and political foundations of the Dominican state and defined the structure of its public powers. Since then, the Constitution has been amended several times to respond to political and institutional changes.

Why it matters

The change affects travel, appointments and work plans for anyone with the weekend off. The calendar is set by the Ministry of Labor under Law 139-97.
