Former Mexican TV host Inés Gómez Mont was arrested this Friday in Florida. She had been a fugitive from Mexican justice for nearly five years. Mexico wants her over alleged participation in a scheme of shell companies used to evade taxes, divert public funds and launder money.

Mexico's Attorney General's Office (FGR) confirmed the arrest through its social media accounts. U.S. Authorities have not yet commented on the case.

Gómez Mont and her husband, businessman Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, face arrest warrants for alleged embezzlement, organized crime and transactions involving proceeds of illicit origin. According to prosecutors, the amount under investigation is allegedly about 3,000 million pesos, more than 160 million dollars. The couple had been on Interpol's red notice list since 2021 at Mexico's request.

Last September, President Claudia Sheinbaum said Interpol had withdrawn the alerts against both and announced that Mexico would request their reinstatement. Sheinbaum criticized that decision and called the couple "recognized invoice sellers," a reference to people who sell fake invoices to evade taxes.

Álvarez Puga was detained in Miami in September 2025 and placed under an immigration proceeding. His next hearing is scheduled for November, while Mexico continues the formal extradition request. As for Gómez Mont, the prosecutor's office said it maintains a request for provisional detention for extradition purposes.
