Dominican prison and correctional staff will receive training in digital skills, cybersecurity and data protection. Here is what the agreement covers.

Key points

  • Indotel and Iseepenc signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen the digital skills of prison and correctional staff.
  • Training will reach teachers, professional staff, technicians, support personnel and Vigilancia y Tratamiento Penitenciario (VTP) agents.
  • Indotel will run workshops on ethical technology use, data protection and cybersecurity, and provide teaching materials.
  • Iseepenc will handle recruitment and selection of participants and provide the physical or virtual spaces for the sessions.

The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) and the Higher Specialized Institute of Penitentiary and Correctional Studies (Iseepenc) signed an agreement to strengthen the technical and digital capabilities of people working in the country's prison and correctional system.

The document was signed by Guido Gómez Mazara, president of Indotel's Board of Directors, and Jaime Francisco Rodríguez, rector of Iseepenc. The initiative covers teachers, professional staff, technicians, support personnel and Vigilancia y Tratamiento Penitenciario (VTP) agents.

Gómez Mazara said the digital transformation of public institutions requires their staff to use technology safely, responsibly and efficiently. "Technology must become a tool that strengthens the capacities of those who serve in the penitentiary system," he said, according to the official statement from the Presidency of the Republic.

Under the agreement, Indotel will offer digital skills training and workshops on the ethical use of information technology, data protection and cybersecurity, along with teaching materials, guides and digital resources. Iseepenc will be responsible for calling and selecting participants and providing the physical or virtual spaces for the training.

The collaboration also includes joint innovation and research projects, the exchange of best practices in human talent management, technology and education, and the promotion of joint certifications for those who complete the programs. Iseepenc, in turn, will provide Indotel staff with workshops on the penitentiary system and related areas.

The alliance is part of efforts to professionalize and modernize the penitentiary system through digital training and the responsible use of technology in state institutions.

Why it matters

According to the agreement, the initiative aims to better prepare prison staff in technology and digital security, which points toward more professional management of state institutions.
