Raúl Acosta Asks to Withdraw Oro Sólido From Future Soberano Awards Nominations

Merengue singer Raúl Acosta has asked that his orchestra Oro Sólido stop being nominated for the Soberano Awards while Héctor Acosta oversees the ceremony. Here is what he said.

Key points

  • Raúl Acosta, leader of Oro Sólido, asked ACROARTE to exclude his orchestra from future nominations.
  • The request is conditional: Héctor Acosta "El Torito" must continue supervising and directing the awards.
  • Acosta says the decision aims to avoid questions about conflicts of interest, not personal disputes.
  • Oro Sólido was nominated in the "Artist and/or Group Residing Abroad" category at the most recent edition.

Dominican merengue singer Raúl Acosta, leader of the group Oro Sólido, has asked the Dominican Association of Art Critics (ACROARTE) that his orchestra not be nominated in the future for the Soberano Awards. He made the request in an Instagram post.

In his message, Acosta asked that any future nominations for Oro Sólido be withdrawn while his friend Héctor Acosta "El Torito" continues supervising and directing the awards. He said the request follows a meeting with his team to review the results of the recent nominations.

The artist clarified that his decision is not based on personal conflicts with ACROARTE members. According to him, it seeks to prevent possible questions about conflicts of interest in the awards process.

Acosta also suggested that the organization consider other Dominican and international artists who, he said, should receive those nominations if numbers and track record are taken into account. Oro Sólido was nominated in the most recent edition in the "Artist and/or Group Residing Abroad" category.

Closing his message, he reaffirmed his respect for the institution and thanked his supporters: "Blessings to everyone, and long live music. Always grateful."
